UPDATE: Man killed in head-on-crash in James City County

UPDATE: Pocahontas Trail reopened at 11:54 p.m.

James City County, Va. – A man was killed Saturday night in a head-on crash on Pocahontas Trail.

According to James City County police, the crash happened just after 7 p.m. near James River Elementary School.

Police say a GMC pickup was heading west bound in the east bound lane.  The pickup hit a Cadillac that was traveling east head-on.

The driver of the Cadillac, Jerry Matthew Minkins, 50, was pronounced dead at Riverside Doctor’s Hospital.

The driver of the pickup was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

Police say neither driver was wearing their seat belt.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

As of 10:20 p.m., Pocahontas Trail was expected to be closed for an hour or two.
