Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a two vehicle accident with entrapment on Monday morning, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

Emergency Communications received the call at 6:10 a.m. advising of the collision at Sleepy Hole Road and Kings Highway, involving an 18-wheeler and a small passenger van.

The passenger van, driven by a 79-year-old man, had driven under a tractor trailer that was backing into a driveway, police say. The driver of the van, the only occupant in the vehicle, was pinned and had to be removed from his vehicle by Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel using heavy duty equipment. He refused medical treatment and suffered only minor cuts and scratches, police say. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The roadway was briefly closed and reopened at 7:25 a.m. Monday morning.

The accident remains under investigation.
