Elizabeth City, N.C. – A man was killed in Elizabeth City on Thursday after he was hit by a pickup truck while he was riding his bicycle.
This happened on Peartree Road near the entrance of Ida Acres.
Police say they were called to the scene at 6:13 p.m.
They say Jerry W. Markam was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup truck when he hit David Eason who was going south on Peartree.
Police say Eason was going near the center line of the road when he was hit.
Officials say Eason had on dark clothes and no reflective material was visible. There were no lights on the bicycle and it was snowing and there was poor visibility at the time officers say.
They say the driver was unable to avoid the accident.
