Norfolk, Va. – Norfolk inmates are shoveling snow Tuesday morning near City Hall.
The non-violent inmates will help with snow removal all day in the City of Norfolk.
Work locations include City Hall, the courts buildings, schools, and other city properties, officials say.
The labor comes at no cost to taxpayers. Last year, Sheriff McCabe said inmates worked nearly 200,000 hours, cutting about $2 million in costs for the city.
In addition to shoveling snow, workforce program inmates do all the cleaning at Scope, yard work, and maintenance at city parks, roads, schools, cemeteries, the airport, Nauticus and Waterside, NewsChannel 3 has learned.
