NANTUCKET ISLAND, Mass. — A photographer captured what it looks like when the ocean turns into a slushy.
After months of deep freeze, Massachusetts photographer Jonathan Nimerfroh captured the chilling beauty when the ocean waves turned to slush. Nimerfroh calls the shot a “Slurpee surf.”
He said he was surprised to discover the nearly-frozen waves hitting the Nantucket shoreline. He is a surfer who is obsessed with the ocean.
The day he took the photo, the high temperature was 19 degrees and strong winds helped stir up the ice curls.
