James City County, Va. – Three teenagers were rescued by James City County Fire and Kingsmill Police units on Thursday afternoon after they became stranded on an icy lake in Kingsmill.
JCC Fire personnel arrived on scene around 5:00 p.m. to find that Kingsmill Police were helping two of the teens off the ice. They were approximately 10 feet from the shoreline and were unable to move because the ice around them was beginning to break and fill with water.
The Kingsmill Police officers brought a tow rope and threw it to the teens. They were removed from the ice one at a time. The first teen fell through the ice as he was being removed, but was quickly rescued and brought to shore. The second teen was removed from the ice without incident.
A third teen had fallen through the ice but was able to remove herself because she was near the dock.
The three teenagers were all uninjured and were escorted home by the Kingsmill Police Department.
