Suffolk Fire and Rescue respond to fire at ranch

Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire on Sunday evening in the 3500 block of Matoaka Road in Suffolk. The call came in at 7:39 p.m.

Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters found a single story brick ranch with flames visible from the exterior. The residents were alerted by a smoke alarm and had evacuated the home prior to the arrival of firefighters.

The fire originated in the laundry room and made its way to the attic of the attached garage. Firefighters were able to cut off the fire in the attic and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the premises.

The fire was under control at 8:28 p.m. The family of five which consisted of 4 adults and 1 child were displaced but are being assisted by family.

There were no injuries. The fire is currently under investigation.
