Police need answers in shooting death of Newport News teen

Newport News, Va. – Newport News Police need help to solve a shooting homicide.

On March 8, 2015 at 11:16 p.m., emergency crews received a call in regards to gunshots in the area of 9th Street and Ivy Avenue.

As officers responded, the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Officers found a teen lying in the street, according to police. Medics pronounced the victim deceased at 11:23 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Dewayne Leroy Parker of the 1100 block of 18th Street in Newport News. Witnesses say they heard approximately seven gunshots and saw two separate groups of males run north and south on Ivy Avenue after the gunshots. The witnesses told police they saw the victim lying in the street.

There is no suspect information in this shooting and homicide. The investigation is ongoing, police say.
