Norfolk, Va. – Hundreds of people lined the streets of Ocean View Saturday for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
This is the 48th year for the festive event and the rain didn’t keep people from attending.
One parade goer says her family comes every year. “This is a family tradition. My parents are from Ireland, so I’ve gone to the St. Patrick’s Day parade most of my life,” Eileen said.
Governor Terry McAuliffe was the parade’s grand marshall.
Because of that, a number of Catholic churches in Norfolk decided not to take part in the parade. They’re upset that McAuliffe is Catholic but supports abortion rights and same sex marriage.
