LATROBE, Pa. — A Pennsylvania woman is recovering after police say she was held captive for several days, beaten with a hammer and had bleach poured in her eyes.

The assaults began last Wednesday and lasted until the woman managed to escape on Saturday, according to WPXI and TribLIVE.

Police arrested Glenn Whittier, 43, on Saturday after the woman escaped. Whittier is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, simple assault and harassment.

The woman suffered from bite marks on her chest, skull trauma, and numerous cuts and bruises. She told police Whittier beat her with a hammer, pulled out large chunks of her hair and poured bleach into her eyes.

Police did not say how the woman was able to escape.

Whittier remains locked up on $100,000 bail. He is due in court next week.
