York County, Va. – An aggravated sexual assault charge against a York County man arrested last November has been certified to a grand jury.
Melvin Randall, 44, was arrested on November 1st in the 200 block of Old York-Hampton Highway. York-Poquoson Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area in reference to a possible burglary. But when they arrived, authorities say Randall was acting suspicious and detained.
It was then that deputies found a 7-year-old girl putting her clothes on in the backseat of a car.
NewsChannel 3 obtained new details of what happened today from a criminal complaint in Randall’s court file.
According to the criminal complaint, the deputy found the seven year old girl with Randall parked in car that hidden in between a house and a garage. The deputy said when he questioned the girl she told him Randall was her Godfather who took off all of her clothing and hugged and kissed her and told her not to tell anyone about it. The court documents show in a forensic interview the little girl said her exposed chest was against Randall’s stomach while he kissed her. In that interview, she also said similar things happened every time she was with him, which according to the criminal complaint was every other Saturday, so they could sell doughnuts for church.
After further investigation, Randall was arrested and charged with Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child by Person in Custodial or Supervisory Relationship, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Aggravated Sexual Battery.
In court this week, only the charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault was certified to a grand jury while the other two charges were dropped.
He is due to appear in court again on March 31st.
