A Poquoson school bus was involved in a crash on I-64 eastbound, according to Virginia State Police.

The call came in at 12:55 p.m. on Friday, March 20. The bus was traveling on I-64 eastbound to Victory Blvd., exit 256 B.

There were 19 students on the bus at the time of the crash, police say. It appears that the bus entered the off ramp and lost control on the wet pavement. The vehicle ran off the road to the right, striking a large highway sign before coming to a stop in a mud filled ditch, according to police.

Five students between the ages of 9 and 10 years old and one teacher were transported to a local hospital to be evaluated.

The driver was charged with reckless driving, police tell NewsChannel 3.
