Hampton, Va. - Three Hampton schools were temporarily placed on lockdown while police searched for a wanted person on Wednesday, police tell NewsChannel 3.

At 9:34 a.m., Hampton police received a call in reference to a possible wanted person in the area. Officers responded to the 3000 block of Shell Road. Their investigation led them to the 800 block of Judy Court.

Police say a canine charged at an officer at which time the officer discharged his firearm. Neither the officer nor the canine was injured in the incident, according to officials. The incident took place outside of a home in the 800 block of Judy Court.
