Norfolk, Va. – The Norfolk fire department is investigating a house fire that happened early Sunday morning.

Around 5:50 a.m., firefighters responded to a house fire on the 3000 block of Kimball Terrace in the Chesterfield Heights section of Norfolk.

According to officials, neighbors called dispatch saying their neighbor’s porch was on fire.

Upon arriving, the first engine saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the entrance of a two story apartment. Four people who lived in the house were standing outside.

Firefighters cleared and contained the fire to the exterior apartment by 6:03 a.m. Smoke that had traveled to  the inside structure of the apartment was removed with fans.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The four occupants will be assisted by the Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority.
