Newport News, Va. – The City of Newport News has issued a notice to demolish the abandoned apartment complex on Dresden Drive.

The former Vista Garden apartment complex located next to the Ivy Farms neighborhood, has been abandoned for more than 10 years.

The Ivy Farms neighborhood intentionally requested the city to install a fence to separate the neighborhood with the multiple apartment complexes located in the area.

The neighborhood has historically been high in crime. A shooting involving two adults on Adams Drive in Newport News occurred on April 6 right next to this abandoned apartment complex.

A North Carolina company is hoping to receive low-income tax credits from the Virginia Housing and Development Authority and will rebuild the complex if approved.  The new multifamily housing complex will include 42 units and be renamed Ada Park Apartments.

The VHDA will announce later this spring if the complex is chosen to receive the tax credits. If chosen, the city will demolish the abandoned complex as early as this summer.
