Video shows woman hitting crying child with tablet

VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- Officials in California are investigating after video posted online shows a woman striking a 3-year-old child in the face with a tablet.

The woman shown in the video is 39-year-old Yvonne Camargo, the Victorville Police Department said in a news release.

According to KTLA, Camargo can be seen placing a screaming child in the backseat of a gold Chevrolet car. As she wipes the child’s face with what appears to be a napkin, she hits the child in the face with the tablet device.

The man who filmed the incident said he started recording the woman when he observed the woman dragging the child out of Kohl's.

Editor's note: The video contains profanity.

The man confronts the woman after watching her hit the child.

“Hey, why are you hitting that kid like that? … Why are you hitting that little baby?” he asks.

Camargo, apparently startled, does not respond.

A second woman can then be heard yelling profanities at Camargo.

“Hitting a f---ing innocent kid that can’t protect themself. … How do you feel hitting a kid?” she asks.

The child, whose relationship with Camargo was not disclosed, was examined for injuries on Thursday by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Abernathy, the news release stated.

“The deputy examined the child for injuries, conducted a criminal interview with Camargo, and notified Children and Family Services. The case is being submitted to the (San Bernardino County) District Attorney’s Office,” the news release stated.
