Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded shortly after midnight to a house fire in the 1400 block of Sierra Drive in the East Suffolk Gardens neighborhood.
Emergency Communications received the call at 12:26 a.m. and the first units arrived on scene at 12:30 a.m., according to officials.
Firefighters arrived on scene and found a working kitchen fire that had extended into the living room area of the single story ranch. These two rooms suffered heavy fire damage and the remainder of the structure had smoke damage, officials say.
The fire was brought under control shortly before 1:00 a.m. The occupants were out of town and a friend was housesitting when the fire occurred.
Two adults and four children will be displaced as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.
Suffolk Police provided traffic control and security and the roadway was briefly closed.
