UPDATE: All lanes have now reopened.
Newport News, Va. – All southbound lanes of Jefferson Avenue just south of Woodfin Road are blocked due to a utility pole that has fallen across the lanes.
Newport News Police say a car was stopped in the left southbound lane. Another driver was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the car and swerved to avoid a collision. It was then that the vehicle struck the utility pole, causing it to fall and block all three southbound lanes.
No one was injured.
It is unknown how long traffic will be blocked. There is a detour through a neighborhood, around the crash.
Dominion Virginia Power is still on scene removing the utility pole and repairing any damaged power lines.
