Suffolk, Va. (WTKR) – An Amtrak train hit a car stuck on railroad tracks in Suffolk late Saturday night.
Dispatch received a call about an accident at the railroad crossing at Kings Fork Road and Archers Mill Road around 10:51 p.m.
According to Suffolk officials, the train hit a Toyota Prius that had gotten stuck on the railroad tracks.
No one was in the car when the train hit it.
Police in Suffolk say a 55-year-old woman who was driving the Prius was backing out of a nearby driveway when she made too wide of a turn and got stuck on the tracks.
The woman escaped the car before being hit by the train.
The Amtrak train had 20 passengers aboard, but no one was hurt.
The crossing arms were working at the time.
The accident is still under investigation.
