Driver strikes utility pole, fire hydrant in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va. - A woman has been charged after a crash in Norfolk caused traffic to be rerouted on Willow Wood Drive, according to police.

On May 5, 2015 around 8:10 a.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Police say a woman was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling eastbound in the 1700 block of Willow Wood Drive, when she lost control of her vehicle, ran off the roadway, struck a fire hydrant, and a utility pole. The vehicle rolled to its side, where it stopped, police say.

The woman was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived, and she was transported to DePaul Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Dominion Virginia Power responded to the scene to repair the down utility pole.

Norfolk Police temporarily diverted all traffic in the 1700 block of Willow Wood Dive.

There were no other vehicle involved in the crash, and no other injuries reported. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, police say.

The driver will be charged with Reckless Driving.
