Virginia Beach, Va. - A police chase ended in a crash shortly after midnight at the intersection of Kellam Road and Aragona Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle is now facing eight different traffic-related charges.

State Police say a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 2014 Hyundai Elantra for driving 91 mph in a safety work zone on westbound I-264 at the old toll plaza in Virginia Beach.

The car stopped, but as the trooper was checking the registration and license plate, the driver sped off.

The trooper chased the car as it exited the interstate at Independence Boulevard towards the Town Center area, down Bonney Road.

The trooper lost sight of the car as it crossed over Virginia Beach Boulevard, but it was found a short time later when the car crashed into a utility pole at Kellam Road and Aragona Boulevard.

The driver, 32-year-old Antoine Jerome Milford of Virginia Beach, was transported to Virginia Beach General Hospital for a complaint of a broken leg.

Police say alcohol was a factor.

Milford has been charged with Reckless Driving 91/55 mph (work zone), Driving under the influence, Felony Elude, Driving while revoked, Unauthorize use of a motor vehicle, Fail to obey highway sign, Fail to stop at stop sign, and Fail to stop at red light.

Dominion Virginia Power crews are working to make additional repairs at the scene. Power has been restored to all customers at this time.
