Chesapeake, Va. - A 22-year-old motorcyclist died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident that occurred Thursday morning on I-64 eastbound at the High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake.
Virginia State Police say they attempted to stop a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 22-year-old Zachary Logan Barker of Virginia Beach that was traveling 82 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.
Barker failed to stop and sped off from police on the closed left shoulder of the interstate. Due to the amount of traffic, troopers chose not to follow Barker and ended the pursuit.
Barker continued to speed down the interstate in the center of the two lanes. A short time later, he was ejected from the motorcycle, which caused the bike to crash into a 2006 Volkswagen sedan.
Barker was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he later died of his injuries.
