One arrested in Smithfield shooting that left one man wounded

Smithfield, Va. – One man has been arrested in a shooting that left another man wounded in Smithfield Thursday evening.

Police responding to a report of shots fired on Wrenn Road found the victim, a 23-year-old black man, a block away suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. The man was transported to Norfolk General for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Police say that at approximately 6:30 p.m. two black men exchanged gun fire on Wrenn Road at the Jersey Park Apartments/Woods Edge Apartments before fleeing the scene in separate vehicles.

The other suspect fled the scene, then called the Smithfield Police Department and subsequently was arrested without incident.

The reason for the altercation is unknown and currently under investigation. Charges are pending against both individuals.
