USNS Spearhead returns home to Little Creek

Posted

Norfolk, Va. – The USNS Spearhead returned home after being deployed for nearly five months.

Dozens of families awaited loved ones from the Joint High Speed vessel Sunday morning at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek.

During it’s deployment, the Spearhead supported the international collaborative capacity-building program Africa Partnership Station. The ship served as a forward staging base command and control platform for 19 U.S. and African partner nations for the 2015 Africa Maritime Law Enforcement Partnership exercise.

The Spearhead is the first of 10 Joint High-Speed vessels planned for the Navy.

It’s a government vessel owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by Military Sealift Command.

The Spearhead is capable of carrying up to 312 passengers.

The USNS Spearhead had her maiden deployment in January.
