Report: Virginia, North Carolina among worst states to raise kids

Virginia/North Carolina – If you live in Virginia or North Carolina, you may not be in the best area to raise your kids according to a new report.

The Institute for Women’s Policy Research has ranked the best and worst states in which to raise children. This new report examines available support for work and family at the state level.

They looked at factors including paid leave, elder and dependent care, motherhood and work, female breadwinners, child care and preschool education.

North Carolina received a D+ and was ranked No. 35 on the list and Virginia was ranked even lower with a D- and a No. 45 ranking.

States that received the best grades were New York, California, Washington, D.C., New Jersey and Rhode Island. Some of the worst on the list were Indiana, Utah, Montana, Mississippi and Wyoming.
