James City County, Va. – A man has died in a four-vehicle accident in James City County on Tuesday.

Virginia State Police say the man was driving a 2008 Chrysler 300 going westbound on Monticello Avenue. They say he hit an unmarked police car that was stopping for the light. This happened at around 1:43 p.m. near the Marketplace Shoppes intersection.

When he hit the vehicle, his vehicle overturned and hit a 1999 Ford pick-up truck. The state police car was pushed into a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The trooper inside and the K-9 were not hurt. The woman who was driving the Hyundai was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chrysler 300 who died at the scene was 84-year-old Donald Lee Howard of Ashland. His family has been notified.
