Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man is in jail after allegedly attempting to assault police officers while he was being arrested on drug charges.
Police attempted to arrest 21-year-old Lonnie Lynell Swanson Saturday evening for a narcotics violation. According to police, Swanson became uncooperative and began to resist arrest including attempting to lunge at the officers and spitting on the them.
He was placed in a police car and transported to the Newport News City Jail.
Swanson was charged with one count each of assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of a schedule I or II drug.
