Man hit and killed by 18-wheeler early Wednesday in James City County

James City County, Va. – A 55-year-old man was hit and killed by an 18-wheeler around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the intersection of Rt. 199 and John Tyler Highway, according to James City County Police.

An investigation revealed that the 55-year-old James City County man, identified as Kevin Whittier Chambers, was hit by the Freightliner 18-wheeler truck as he was attempting to cross Rt. 199 toward the Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center. Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 58-year-old Virginia Beach man, said he did not see the victim until it was too late. No charges have been filed against him at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
