Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk police are currently investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred in the 4100 block of Deer Path Road in the rural Whaleyville Borough shortly after midnight, according to police.

Emergency Communications received the call at 12:34 a.m. advising of the accident involving a Ford sedan.

Crews arrived and found that the vehicle ran off the roadway, collided with an electrical pole, and came to rest in a ditch.

Wires were down across the roadway, which was briefly closed, and Dominion Power crews also responded to the scene. Electrical power in the immediate area was affected, police say.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel provided emergency medical assessment and treatment and the 18-year-old male driver was airlifted by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger did not require medical attention and refused treatment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
