Virginia Beach, Va. - A sand storm at the Oceanfront -- as the landing craft, air cushion hovercraft, comes ashore.

Based out of Little Creek, the Navy-operated LCAC is used to transport troops, equipment, and supplies from ships to the shore -- and across the beach.

NewsChannel 3 was there this morning when crews let us on board.

"We are overly excited about showing it off this weekend. We don't normally get to show off in our hometown, so it is really nice to be able to come down to VB and show it off," says Senior Chief Bolanowski, Craft Master.

When on the water -- it travels the waves at high speeds -- then, when it comes time to head back to shore -- the hovercraft goes right through the surf zone and onto the beach.

Later on this weekend -- the crew is offering tours to anyone.

"They see it all day on the bay and stuff like that, but they never actually get to come up and walk on it, so it's really a proud moment for us to show it off in our hometown."

Also -- don't forget about all the big concerts each night!

Tonight, it's Lee Brice; on Saturday, Lynyrd Skynyrd; and then Alabama on Sunday.
