Virginia Beach, Va. – A young girl drowned in a Virginia Beach pool Sunday afternoon.
Officials say they responded to reports of a potential drowning at a private pool in the 400 block of Loyalist Court around 4:47 p.m.
A six-year-old was taken to the hospital where she later died.
Robin Dotson said it was horrible to watch as police officers gave the girl CPR across the street from her house.
"Once the ambulance came, you seen they swept her away real fast and I just seen her little feet on the cart and I watched them give her CPR for a good ten or 15 minutes," said Dotson. "We were hoping that it wasn't going to be serious, you know, that they were going to be able to save her. It was devastating, it was really upsetting especially knowing it's a child."
Dotson said she saw some kids playing in the pool earlier Sunday afternoon.
With two little grandchildren of her own, she said this tragedy hits close to home for her.
"Things could happen in a blink of an eye. You know, you turn your back in a second and something could happen," said Dotson. "I just feel really sorry for the family and my prayers go out for them."
Police said there is no other information at this time.
