12-year-old, 15-year-old arrested for carjacking in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – A 12-year-old and a 15-year-old have been arrested in a carjacking case in Newport News, police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at approximately 12:42 a.m., Newport News Police responded to the 900 block of Forest Lake Court in reference to a report of a carjacking.

The victim, a 27-year-old Newport News woman, told police that she had just pulled into the parking lot, exited her vehicle, and began walking toward her apartment, when she heard footsteps and saw a male juvenile brandishing a handgun.

The juvenile demanded the victim’s cell phone and car keys and she complied, police say. The juvenile then fled the area with another male juvenile in the victim’s Honda CRV.

Around noon the same day, the victim and a friend spotted the stolen vehicle in the Southeast Community and contacted police. Approximately 30 minutes later, police saw the vehicle which was occupied by five individuals. The driver of the vehicle stopped in the area of 26th Street and Orcutt Avenue and all occupants ran from the vehicle, according to police. The driver and a passenger were apprehended.

A 12-year-old Newport News male and a 15-year-old Newport News male were arrested and both were charged with carjacking, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and three counts of conspiracy to commit a felony. They are currently being held in juvenile detention.
