Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Police responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident that occurred earlier this morning on Portsmouth Boulevard/Route 58 Eastbound between Nansemond Parkway and the six lanes.
Emergency Communications received calls at 4:29 a.m. advising of the accident involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck.
Crews found that the pickup truck struck the tractor trailer, causing a diesel fuel spill. The vehicles came to rest on opposite sides of the roadway.
One lane was briefly closed for the safety of emergency personnel earlier this morning. Both vehicles have since been towed from the scene.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel provided emergency medical assessment and treatment and the driver of the pickup sustained non-life threatening injuries.
A Hazmat crew and Public Works responded due to the fuel spill.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
