Newport News, Va. – Police have arrested a Newport News man and charged him after they say he bit off part of his roommate’s ear.

On June 8, 2015, just before 6 p.m., police officers responded to the 700 block of Darden Drive in reference to an assault.

When officers arrived, they spoke to the victim, a 37-year-old Newport News man who told them that he was involved in a verbal altercation with his roommate, Arthur Baker.

The verbal altercation eventually turned physical, police say, and Baker punched the victim in the mouth and eye.

Baker then got the victim in a chokehold and bit part of the victim’s right ear off, according to police.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Arthur Wayne Baker, 58, of the 700 block of Darden Drive in Newport News was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding.
