Former Portsmouth, Newport News Police Chief named as Interim Chief for Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Va. – Former Portsmouth and Newport News Police Chief Dennis A. Mook has been named as the Interim Police Chief for the City of Portsmouth.

Mook will start in the position on June 25th alongside current Portsmouth Police Chief Ed Hargis until Chief Hargis’ retirement date on June 30th.

Chief Mook most recently served as a consultant and a Special Assistance to the United States Naval Criminal Investigative Service. He retired from the Newport News Police Department after serving as Chief there from 1997 to 2004. He also served as Chief of  the Portsmouth Police Department from 1994 to 1997. He spent a total of 23 years in the Portsmouth Police Department, starting as a patrol officer in 1974.
