Hampton, Va. - Hampton police have identified the victim of a homicide in the 4800 block of 81st Street early Wednesday morning. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Dwayne Spivey of Newport News.
Police have also charged a man with murder in this case.
Police arrested 22-year-old Toure Amir Rahjan Shaw of the 5100 block of Goldsboro Drive. He has been charged with one count of murder, one
count of breaking and entering while armed, one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Shaw will be transported to the Hampton City Jail once he is released from the hospital, police say. However, he remains in police custody.
It happened shortly before 1:00 a.m. Police arrived on scene and found two men shot. Spivey was pronounced deceased at the scene and Shaw was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect gained entry into the residence, and a confrontation ensued between the suspect and victim. An exchange of gunfire took place between the suspect and victim, resulting in both individuals being shot, police say.
