Norfolk, Va.- SADD, otherwise known as, Students Against Destructive Decisions, nominates there National Advisors of the year and one just so happens to be from Hampton Roads!

Jamie Plecker, a Heritage High School health and physical education teacher, was selected as the third place National SADD Advisor of the Year.

SADD is a national peer education, prevention and activism program designed to prevent teens from making destructive decisions.

With Plecker’s guidance of the students, SADD has become the largest student led organization at Heritage High and because of its diversity and attention, it has a more comfortable environment for the students. The organization has hosted many events geared toward healthy and safe student development such as Red Ribbon Week activities, National Kick (cigarette) Butts Day and many alcohol awareness campaigns. Also, campaigns such as Seatbelts Save boasted the second highest increase of seatbelt usage in the Get it Together Seatbelt campaign among all Hampton Roads high schools.

Dawn Teixeira, president and CEO of SADD, Inc., stated that Plecker’s work at the high school “exemplifies our idea of a successful SADD advisor. Our panel of judges found her particularly impressive and her commitment to the SADD mission and principles through her work at the school and in the community.”

Plecker will receive her award during the SADD National Conference in Nashville , Tennessee, June 28th- July 1st.
