Midtown Tunnel reopens after police investigation

Portsmouth, Va. – The Midtown Tunnel has reopened after a police investigation temporarily shut it down Sunday morning.

According to Detective Misty Holley, police received a call at 9:51 a.m. Sunday morning from Elizabeth River Tunnel (ERT) personnel about an explosive threat.

An ERT employee told police a man walking on the pedestrian walkway from Norfolk to Portsmouth informed him about the potential explosive threat. That man has been taken into police custody.
