Franklin woman charged in claw hammer attack

Franklin, Va. – A Franklin woman has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and malicious wounding after a fight over a boyfriend involving a claw hammer, according to the City of Franklin Police Department.

It happened on Saturday, June 27 at approximately 1:32 a.m.

Police responded to 503 Washington Street to investigate a fight. The investigation revealed that a female resident was attacked by the suspect when she opened the door.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Nayasia Trenise Pope of Bolling Street in Franklin, Virginia.

Pope allegedly attacked 21-year-old Ebony Monique Scott, striking her in the face several times with a claw hammer after forcing her way into the home.

Pope also allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old man who was inside the home, police say. Scott was transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital for treatment of the lacerations on her face, as well as broken facial bones. The male victim was transported for treatment as well, police say.

Officers obtained warrants and arrested Pope. She is charged with armed burglary and malicious wounding. Pope was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
