After such a soggy June, it has been nice to start July on a dry note. But don't get used to it. A cold front will move into the region on Thursday and hit the brakes. That will be the focus for showers and storms through the rest of the work week and the holiday weekend.

We'll wake up to a mix of clouds and sunshine on Thursday. But sunshine will be in short supply tomorrow. We'll have a 20% chance for showers through the first part of the day. But that number rises to around 60% in the afternoon. We're not expecting an outbreak of severe weather, but an isolated severe thunderstorm isn't out of the question. The silver lining: the clouds and rain will help hold temperatures down. Expect highs in the mid 80s.

Expect more mid 80s on Friday and more showers and storms. In fact, an area of low pressure moving along our stalled out front will increase our storm chances to around 70%.

Unfortunately, Independence Day on Saturday is also looking soggy. Expect plenty of clouds cover, a 50% chance for storms and highs in the mid 80s.

And we'll likely see more scattered storms on Sunday. But we may also enjoy more sunshine, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s.

Sunshine finally returns in a big way by Monday, once our front finally clears the region.
