Arrest made in early morning homicide in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Virginia - A homicide investigation is now underway in Portsmouth after a 60-year-old man was pronounced dead inside of a home in the 2900 block of Deep Creek Boulevard early Thursday morning, according to Portsmouth Police spokesperson Detective Misty Holley.

The victim has been identified as Thomas Parson.

Police have now arrested 19-year-old Marc A. Harding of Portsmouth. He has been charged with 2nd degree murder. He was found in Hampton and is now being held in the Hampton City Jail.

Police dispatch received a 911 call requesting medical assistance for an injured man at 2:23am.

Medics responded to find the man suffering injuries consistent with being assaulted and he was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Holley.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry into the home.

The homicide remains under investigation.
