Chesapeake, Va. - One person has died following a house fire in Chesapeake on Thursday evening.

Crews were sent out to a home on 1205 Commerce Drive at 6:27 p.m.

When they arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from the home.

Firefighters had to pull 63-year-old Phillip Butts from the home. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Another person was treated on scene for injuries but refused transport to the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Chesapeake Fire Marshal’s Office, however early indications appear the fire was accidental in nature and not suspicious or intentional.
