Suffolk, Va. – Two women and a man were hospitalized after a single vehicle crash Friday morning in the 9900 block of Gates Road in rural Suffolk near the Southampton County line.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue and EMS crews provided emergency medical assessment at the scene and the adult woman driver and an adult man in the rear seat required extrication. The driver was airlifted by Life Evac to Sentara Norfolk General with non-life threatening injuries, and the man was airlifted by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Another female passenger was ground transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, also with non-life threatening injuries. A fourth male passenger refused medical treatment.
Upon preliminary investigation it was found that the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway striking a tree.
The Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance with a medic unit and the landing zone for the helicopters. The Franklin Fire Department also assisted with a medic unit.
A portion of S. Quay Road as well as the 9900 block of Gates Road remained closed until approximately 10:45 a.m.
The driver, Delia Joyce, of Franklin, was issued a summons for Reckless Driving – Failure to Maintain Proper Control.
