Franklin, Va. - A man wanted for the attempted murder of a woman at a Days Inn in Franklin Tuesday night has been arrested in Chesapeake and faces multiple charges.

The incident began when police responded to a report of a disturbance at the Days Inn at 1660 Armory Drive shortly before 11pm.

When they arrived they found a 36-year-old woman staggering in the parking lot asking for help.

Codi Batts

The woman, identified as Yolanda Coleman, had significant injuries to her face and was taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Coleman told investigators that her boyfriend, 27-year-old Codi Terrell Batts of Rocky Mount, N.C. returned to their room intoxicated and allegedly began to attack her without provocation.

The victim said Batts struck her in the face with his fists, attempted to strike her with a chain, threw a microwave at her, struck her in the face with a hand weight, bit her on her back, and held her down on the bed and choked her.

She said Batts also held her in the room against her will and threatened to “kill her” as well.

Batts fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. Police obtained warrants for his arrest and an area wide alert was put out.

Batts was apprehended by Chesapeake Police later in the night and charged with driving while intoxicated and warrants from Franklin were served on him for attempted murder, strangulation, abduction and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
