Woman arrested after allegedly robbing Portsmouth 7-Eleven at knifepoint

Portsmouth, Va. – A woman has been arrested after allegedly robbing a Portsmouth 7-Eleven at knifepoint early Thursday morning.

Police received a 911 call at approximately 1:14 a.m. reporting a robbery at the store in the 1500 block of Airline Boulevard.

According to detectives, 42 year-old Beverly Dortch entered the store and demanded money from the clerk at knifepoint.

The clerk complied and Dortch ran away. No one was injured during the incident.

Two citizens standing outside of the business were alerted to the robbery by the clerk after Dortch left.  They began to follow Dortch and eventually detained her until police arrived and took her into custody.

Dortch has been charged with robbery.
