Portsmouth Police searching for alleged burglar who skipped court date

Portsmouth Va. – Portsmouth Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man wanted on burglary charges who failed to appear in court.

55-year-old Craig A. Hooper is wanted for Failure to Appear and Contempt of Court after he failed to show up in court on charges he broke into the home of a man who recently passed away.

On February 8th just before 12:30 a.m. a citizen reported a suspicious vehicle in the area of 2300 Bidgood Drive.

When officers arrived they saw a flash of  light emitting from a home belonging to a gentlemen who had just passed away.

Officers surrounded the home and took the Mr. Hooper into custody.  Police found that Hooper had entered the home through a side window and found numerous tools on Hooper that are often used to commit burglary.

Hooper was charged with Burglary and Possession of Burglarious Tools.

Hooper is a white male who stands 5’9” tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds.  He has blue eyes and brown hair.

His last known address is the 5000 block of Lake Circle in Portsmouth, but he is also known to frequent the oceanfront in Virginia Beach.

Detectives believe that Hooper is doing odd jobs, such as handyman work, around the area.
