Norfolk, Va. – A car accident left nearly 1000 people in the dark Sunday morning.

Police tell us a man driving westbound in the 300 block of E. Little Creek Road veered off the roadway and struck a power pole, overturning his vehicle.

Frank Mack with Dominion Virginia Power says about 300 customers immediately lost service as a result of the down lines. In order to fully restore power to the area, they began re-routing lines and disconnecting an additional 780 customers, leaving about 1000 customers without service.

Currently there are only about 570 customers still without power. They expect full service to be restored between 1-3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

E. Little Creek Road was closed for most of the morning into the early afternoon, but has since reopened.

The driver escaped with minor injuries and has been charged with reckless driving.

Check back with WTKR.com for updates on when full service is restored.
