Former presidents have to report for jury duty too

Just because you’re a former leader of the free world does not mean you can get out of doing your civic duty.

Desiree Bryant let the world know on Twitter that President George W. Bush is at her session of jury duty. “Look who I just met doing Jury Duty! #POTUS,” she tweets, along with a photo of her posing with the president.

This is not President Bush’s first time being called for jury duty in his home state. In 2005, he was among 600 potential jurors in McLennan County.

Judge Ralph Strother told Fox News at the time that he didn’t think he would be “sending the sheriff out to bring the president in,” since even though “jury duty is a very important civic function,” “running the country” takes priority.

But now that he’s no longer in office, Bush showed up just like all the other potential jurors. Chances are he probably won’t be chosen to actually serve on a jury, but you never know.

President Obama was called for jury duty in Chicago in 2010, but he sent his regrets because he was delivering the State of the Union address.
