York County, Va. - A 32-year-old former private tennis coach has been sentenced for two counts of indecent liberties with a minor.
Gordon Hammersley was arrested in May of 2014 when a then 15-year-old girl that was his former tennis student told authorities he raped her at his apartment.
In the criminal complaint, the girl also told police that four times a week, for about seven months, Hammersley had her perform oral sex on him in his car, which he would park somewhere in her Williamsburg neighborhood.
The criminal complaint also shows Hammersley admitted to police the two had sex but he says it was consensual. In the court documents, he also told police the girl performed oral sex on him seven times and knew she was just 15-years-old.
Hammersley was charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a minor and pleaded guilty in November.
He was sentenced to five years in prison for each charge but all 10 years was suspended. He will instead be required to register as a sex offender and will remain on probation for 10 years.
According to York County Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Donna Maw, the victim wasn't asking for prison time for Hammersley, just that he register as a sex offender.
He has no prior criminal history.
