After surviving the long haul of the work week, it’s time to kick back and enjoy the weekend. But what is there to do in Hampton Roads this weekend? You could sit around and read at the library (which ranks highly on the “102 Things to Do on a Money-Free Weekend” ya know?), but that’s such a Monday thing to do. So, ditch the book and enjoy these last few glory days better known as the Summer.

There are thousands of things going on this weekend, but here are a few that made the list…

ASYMCA 8K Mud Run
In the military? Get up early and head over to the ASYMCA 8K Mud Run at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.This fun filled event is promising even more obstacles, more challenges, more running and more mud! The run starts at 8:00 a.m. And don’t leave the little ones at home, get them up too as the Mini-Mud Run is fit for all ages. For more information visit: www.asymcamudrun.com.

NXL Virginia Beach Open: Paintball Tournament
Didn’t know there was a professional paintball league? We didn’t either, but we also think it’s totally awesome. Saturday & Sunday, check out the top 16 professional “paintball-ing” teams at one of the world’s largest paintball events. There will be food trucks, seven courses, over 100 teams, and grandstand seating, and the best thing is its FREE! The tournaments start at 9:00 a.m. both days at Hunt Club Farms located at 2388 London Bridge Rd in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach Crab & Beer Feast
Stay over at Hunt Club Farms for a new spin on a great tradition, a Virginia Beach crab feast, Saturday, August 8 from noon – 5 p.m. Also, event benefits go to the Go Rescue Pet Adoption Center. So, go eat crabs and drink booze for the animals!

6th Annual International Soccer and Community Festival
If you’re still high off the U.S. Women’s Soccer teams big win last month, then get ready for a day long tournament in Newport News on Saturday. The adult soccer tournament starts at Riverview Farm Park located at 100 City Farm Road at 8:30 a.m., and organizations, many of whom will have children’s activities, will be present from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They’ll also be offering a free youth clinic from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Firefighter Combat Challenge
Firefighters from all across the area are competing in a combat challenge Saturday morning in the Rudee Loop in Virginia Beach. For more information visit: www.firefighterchallenge.com.

90th Annual Hampton Cup Regatta 
This year’s cup kicks off Saturday at 11:00 a.m. through Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. Join 25,000 spectators for a weekend of on-the-water thrills, chills, and racing excitement. Up to 80 hydroplane boats and Jersey Speed Skiffs from the United States and Canada are expected to compete during the 90th annual event. Get ready for the nation’s oldest continuously running hydroplane boat race. For more information visit: www.hamptoncupregatta.com.

13th Annual Family Fun Fest @ Chesapeake Square
You know you’ll be shopping this weekend so you might as well have fun while you’re at it! Chesapeake Square invites you to a great mix of entertainment for kids of all ages to enjoy, such as inflatables and face painting, as well as live karate, dance and musical performances. Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce and Duck Thru present a Coast Guard/Military Appreciation Concert
This outdoor concert happens rain or shine on Saturday, August 8 at Morgan’s Corner Pulling Park 970 US Highway 158 West in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  Headliner and rising Nashville Country Music Awards Star Ray Scott will grace the big stage along with Old Southern Moonshine Revival, Outlaw 21 and American Idol contestant, Emily Minor. Children will enjoy their own Kid’s Fun Zone featuring Monster Trucks, Bounce Houses, Face Painting, Train Rides, Characters in Costume and other kid’s activities. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. with the concert set to begin at 4:00 p.m.

Southern VA Raiders Military Appreciation Night 
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. for the Southern Virginia Raiders minor football team as they continue their home season Saturday night with a “Military Appreciation Night”. All military personnel are “buy one — get one free” with a military ID. After a day full of shopping and good eating head on over for games, door prizes, drawing, and of course a good football, and who doesn’t love free gifts and a free game!
